It’s that time again for motorcycle enthusiasts from Coweta and surrounding counties to join together for CORRAL Ride 2006 on Nov. 4. This will be the third annual Poker Run to benefit CORRAL, Coweta Organization for Riding, Rehabilitation and Learning, a not-for-profit organization operating out of the historic Sewell barn in Roscoe.

At CORRAL, mentally and physically challenged children and adults participate in therapeutic horseback riding and instruction at no cost. Horseback riding for the handicapped has been recognized internationally as one of the most beneficial types of therapeutic recreation available and classes are comprised of students with a wide range of disabilities.

Services are provided to the Coweta County School System Special Education classes and any other individuals that qualify. CORRAL depends solely on partial funding from United Way and private donations to cover operating expenses. It is through the volunteers and sponsors that CORRAL can offer these services free of charge.

CORRAL is grateful to the local business owners and riders who have faithfully supported the event, raising some $13,500 over the past three years. CORRAL Ride 2006 would like to match this number by inviting the entire community to join in the fun and festivities. Even if you don’t own a motorcycle, join the convoy and play a hand or two anyway. It’s all for a great cause. The cost is $20 for the first hand and $10 for each additional hand.

“Even though this is the third year of the Poker Run, I’m still amazed at the response and the new sponsors we’ve gotten,” says Ronda Schwenning, ride coordinator. “Every year it seems to get better and better. I know we’re going to do well this year.”

Registration for CORRAL Ride 2006 begins at 11a.m. at Coweta Custom Cycles located in the J&R Plaza on Ga. Highway 34 at White Oak. The first bike out will be at noon and the last bike out at 12:30 p.m. The ride will take place within Coweta and Fayette counties with maps of the route available at registration. The cost is $20 per bike and $10 for an additional rider. If you’re not interested in the ride, join us at Jekyll and Hyde’s for the auction and give-a-ways and bike show. At $10 per entry and five classes plus a people’s choice, this could be a very interesting competition. And don’t forget, all proceeds go to CORRAL!

Anyone interested in riding in or sponsoring CORRAL Ride 2006, should email Schwenning at corralride06@yahoo.com, or stop by any one of the sponsors listed for a flyer. CORRAL Ride 2006 is still looking for prize give-a-ways, auction items and sponsorship.
