Thomas Ed Kirkley Sr., 88, Fayetteville, formerly of Riverdale, died Oct. 28, 2006. He was born March 15, 1918 in Fulton County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Kirkley, and a grandson, David McWhorter. He was a veteran of the United States Army in World War II, serving alongside Gen. George C. Patton, when they stormed the beaches in France. He had worked for both the Georgian and the Atlanta Journal Constitution for over 50 years, retiring from the AJC with 21 years. He was a Mason and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Newborn, Ga. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Chuck Kitchens officiating. Interment was at Decatur City Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Tommy Kirkley Jr., Ellenwood; daughters, Deloris M. Kirkley Drury, Stockbridge, and Becky J. and Ken Sanders, Fayetteville; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
