Proposed construction of a 68-home Stella Place residential development at 335 Grady Avenue is back on the agenda for Thursday’s meeting of Fayetteville City Council.

Council members will hear the second reading of the proposal that would rezone the 38.15-acre site across from Fayette Middle School to an R-22 PUD (Single Family Residential, Planned Unit Development).

While expressing support for the concept, the council Oct. 19 said they had hoped for a proposal that would be more innovative.

“This is the last large undeveloped land in the city and we would like it to be the crème de la crème,” Mayor Kenneth Steele said to project representative Larry Seabolt. “I understand the concept but it looks like the average subdivision. I would really like to see you attack this area with new, visionary ideas. Your homes look nice but we would like you to work in concert to make this special.”

Also at the meeting, the council is expected to vote on the city’s official zoning map.

Public hearings and second readings will be held on flood plain management and flood damage protection and an amendment to the city ordinance covering illicit discharges and illegal connection to the storm drain system.

The city’s future land use plan designates the site for medium-density single-family residential development.
