Fayette County Schools is adding a new health and wellness site to its homepage and is seeking community input on a logo for the initiative.

The site will feature tips and information to help parents, students and the community improve their health by making better choices when it comes to food and exercise. Documented information from various health organizations such as the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), American Heart Association and renowned medical professionals will be highlighted on the site along with links to valuable health and wellness resources for both students and adults.

The site will also showcase wellness activities happening within Fayette County Schools such as running/walking clubs, use of fitness equipment and facilities and programs aimed at helping students learn to form healthy habits.

From November 1-10, residents can vote on four proposed logos, one of which will be used to brand the health and wellness initiative. The community can vote online by logging onto www.fcboe.org and clicking on the “Health and Wellness Logo Vote” link to view the choices and select the one they like the best.

This initiative is part of the Fayette County Schools Wellness policy that was adopted by the board of education in June 2006.

“Through this program we hope to increase the knowledge and information base of not only our students, but also their parents, teachers, neighbors and the public at large so that Fayette can be a health and fitness model for other communities to follow,” say Deborah Friday, physical education teacher at Peeples Elementary and chairperson of the school system’s Wellness Committee.

Health and wellness news, information and programs will also air on Channel 24, the school system’s educational channel.
