During the weekend of Sept. 30, the Level 5 girls gymnastics team of Gym South Gymnastics and Cheerleading made a trip down to Panama City, Fla. to compete in their third meet of the USA Gymnastics season.

The competition at the meet was pretty fierce, consisting of teams from Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. The girls competing in the meet were Danielle Harlan, Tyler Hicks, De’ja Jackson, Sarah McCullough, Ansley McDaniel, Aliyah Reeves, and Dylan Reynolds, and were lead by their coaches Beth McDowell and Jason Beliveau.

This was a very exciting trip for the team because it was their first traveling meet of the season and they were looking forward to continuing their strong performance thus far.
The girls began the meet on the uneven bars where McCullough received a 9.200, earning her first place honors for her age group and the meet. The girls were very excited because they had started the meet off well, and were looking forward to continue with a good showing on all of the events. Next, they went to the balance beam where they continued to do well. Hicks scored a 9.100, McDaniel a 9.275, Reeves a 9.325, and Jackson winning the event with a 9.425.

Floor was where the Gym South girls really shined. All of the girls scored very well, including: Hicks, Reeves, McDaniel and Reynolds all scoring at least a 9.000, and Jackson winning the event with an absolutely beautiful routine which earned her the score of a 9.700.
The final event was vault as the Gym South girls made a 1,2,3 finish where McDaniel won the event with an 8.750, McCullough received an 8.650 earning second place, and Harlan scoring an 8.550 earning her third place.

The girls of Gym South did an amazing job throughout the whole meet, winning on each event and receiving first place in the team finals with a total score of 109.650.

The following is a schedule of the rest of the girl’s meet season: Roswell, November 4-5 at Ultimate Gymnastics, and December 2-3 Level 5 State.
