Fairburn continued its annexation process Oct. 23 and 26 with the city council voting to bring nearly 2,000 more acres into the city. Fairburn’s total annexations since August total 4,113 acres, accounting for an 88 percent increase in the city’s size.

Council members at the Oct. 26 called meeting annexed 1,651 acres predominantly on the city’s southwest side. The largest annexation, the Line Creek area, included 1,550 acres and 353 homes south of I-85, west of Ga. Highway 74 and on to the Coweta County line. A significant portion of the properties bordering Fayette County had been annexed into the city since August.

The other area annexed, Park Lane subdivision, is situated south of Rivertown Road and Cedar Grove Road on the city’s west side north of U.S. Highway 29. Park Lane comprises 101 acres with 76 single family homes.

Both areas were annexed under the 60 percent method, requiring approval by 60 percent of land owners and 60 percent of registered voters. Sixty-three percent of Line Creek property owners requested annexation along with 67 percent of registered voters, while 79 percent of Park Lane owners agreed to the annexation along with 78 percent of registered voters.

Fairburn council members Oct. 23 added another 302 acres to the city limits. Using the 100 percent method of annexation, the acreage included 29 separate tracks in six groups. The groups included five agricultural tracts in the White Mill area totaling 17 acres, six agricultural tracts totaling 48 acres in the Johns River Road area, six agricultural tracts totaling 83 acres in the Herndon Road/Bishop Road area, three heavy industrial tracks totaling totaling 69 acres in the Bishop West area, seven heavy industrial tracks totaling 33 acres in the Bishop East/U.S. Highway 29 area and two agricultural and light industrial tracts totaling 52 acres in the Milam Road/Spence Road area.
