A Palmetto man was arrested Oct. 22 in connection with an Oct. 11 armed robbery at Genesis Gardens Apartments.

Donald Deloatch, 41, was charged with armed robbery in the incident at the apartments involving a Comcast Cable technician, said Palmetto Det. John Cooper.

Deloatch was spotted by officers Shane Turner and Mike Simpson driving along Carlton Road in a vehicle owned by a family member, said Cooper. Deloatch had been identified in a photo line-up by the victim subsequent to the robbery, Cooper added. Deloatch was arrested without incident.

The Oct. 11 armed robbery at Genesis Gardens Apartments occurred at approximately 9 PM as the Comcast technician and a co-worker were doing installation work at the apartment complex, according to Cooper. The technician left the installation area to retrieve equipment from the service vehicle when he noticed a man leaning against the van. As he approached the man asked for change for a $20 bill, Cooper said. The technician secured the equipment he needed and turned to rejoin his co-worker when the assailant intervened, producing a gray handgun and backing the technician against a stairwell while demanding his money, Cooper said. The Comcast employee complied and the armed robber fled on foot toward the rear of the apartment complex, said Cooper.
