By: The Citizen
Four Fayette County women received awards for their service at the American Cancer Society’s 2006 Volunteer Summit. The summit entitled “Power to Change the World” was held on Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Marriott Airport Hotel in Atlanta, Ga. Receiving an award for the South Atlantic Division’s Highest Income Raised by a Gala were Vicki DeJoy and Karen Jackson, co-chairpersons of Fayette County’s 2005 Barons’ Ball. The 2005 ball raised $216,000 for local patient services, research, advocacy and education. Susan Osborne, corporate sponsorship chairperson for the 2005 Barons’ Ball, received an award for the Highest Corporate Contributions. Susan is currently serving as the Ball Chairperson for the 2006 Barons’ Ball. Osborne was responsible for raising $120,700 in corporate donations for the 2005 Barons’ Ball. Susan Stitt, publicity chairperson for the 2003-2005 Barons’ Balls, received an award for Best Gala Publicity. This year’s Barons’ Ball is the fourth one that each of the award winners have volunteered. They have been instrumental in growing the gala into one of the most successful fund raisers for the American Cancer Society’s South Atlantic Division. Each of the four women has been touched by cancer, either personally or through a close family member. They dedicate their efforts towards funding local programs for cancer patients and their families, and funding research and development for treatments and a cure for cancer. The fourth annual American Cancer Society - Fayette County Barons' Ball will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4. The first three Barons' Balls have raised over $460,000 for local programs of the American Cancer Society, which are available to the community free of charge, as well as funding research and development. The western themed event sells out to 500 patrons each year. If you would like to receive an invitation to the ball, donate an auction item, or receive a sponsorship package, please contact Nychelle Williams, senior community manager of the American Cancer Society, Fayette County at 770-460-8920 or log on to the event Web site www.baronsball.com. login to post comments |
