The Fayette County 4-H Rabbit and Cavy (Guinea pig) Club held a show at the Fayette County Kiwanis Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 10. The show was judged by Donald Peterson, a registered American Rabbit Breeders Association cavy judge. The Fayette 4-H Rabbit and Cavy Club is for students ages five and up who own rabbits or guinea pigs.

During the show at the fair, animals were judged for their conformity to ideal breed standards and students were judged for their knowledge of their animals.

The following students placed first: Best Senior Buck (male rabbit), Maggie Spears; Best Senior Doe (female rabbit), Anna Kate Spears; Best Junior Rabbit, Maggie Spears; Best Cavy, Shannen Chabot; Senior Showmanship Winner, Anna Kate Spears; and Junior Showmanship Winner, Maggie Spears. Second place winners were: Senior Buck, Anna Kate Spears; Senior Doe, Benjamin Spears; Junior Rabbit, Maggie Spears; Cavy, Shannen Chabot; Senior Showmanship, Sharon Shealy; and Junior Showmanship, Benjamin Spears.

This was the only animal show at the Fayette County Kiwanis Fair this year.

"We hope the community had a chance to see a little of what animals bring to a county fair," said 4-H volunteer Dana Spears. In addition to the show, the 4-H Rabbit and Cavy Club hosted a booth at the fair where children could pet rabbits and guinea pigs and make a rabbit craft.

The Fayette County 4-H Rabbit and Cavy Club meets monthly, every second Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the Fayette County Extension Service Offices in the Fayette County Administrative Complex on the corner of Ga. Highway 54 and Ga. Highway 85 in downtown Fayetteville. For more information on this or other 4-H clubs, contact the Fayette County Extension Service at 770-460-5730.
