Don’t miss next performance of local orchestra

I was privileged to attend the concert given by the Southern Crescent Symphony Orchestra [Oct. 15]. As a former bassoonist, I was very impressed with its performance. It was very obvious that dozens of hours went into the performance, albeit hours that were entirely volunteered.

Held at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, the acoustics were just this side of perfect.

The program was entitled “Sacred Sounds in Sacred Places” and featured selections by J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Aaron Copland, Morton Gould, Giuseppe Verdi, and Jean Sibelius.

I encourage everyone to attend the next performance, Dec. 3, 3 p.m., at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center. Let’s hope for a better turnout than appeared last Sunday. If I were one of the performers, I would have been disappointed.
