Six local volleyball teams qualify for state playoffsTue, 10/24/2006 - 1:14pm

Six local schools have made the state volleyball playoffs in their respective classifications and two of those schools have won area titles. The Starr’s Mill Lady Panthers, now members of Class AAAA, defeated McIntosh in the area final, avenging two previous losses to the Lady Chiefs, to win the area championship. Starr’s Mill opened the tournament with wins over Creekside (25-9, 25-7) and Northgate (25-12, 25-15) before falling to McIntosh 25-22, 22-25, 25-22). Starr’s Mill then beat Whitewater (25-22, 25-17) for the right to make the final. The Lady Panthers then swept the Lady Chiefs (25-15, 25-23, 25-17). McIntosh finished the tournament as area runner-up and Whitewater finished as the third seed. Both teams made the state playoffs. In area 3 AA/A, Landmark Christian (24-16) finished in third place and Our Lady of Mercy (19-21) finished in fourth place. In the tournament, Landmark defeated Our Lady of Mercy but lost to Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy and Lovett. The Bobcats got wins over Whitefield Academy and Paideia and lost to Landmark and Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy. In Class AAAA, Starr’s Mill (37-10) will open the playoffs at Fayette County against Glynn Academy (28-11) at 1:30 p.m. The winner of that game will meet the winner of the Chapel Hill/North Springs match at 4:30 p.m. McIntosh (30-15) will take on Lakeside-Evans (9-7 record on GaSports.com) at 1:30 p.m. at McIntosh. The winner of that game will take on the winner of the Dalton/Hillgrove match at 4:30 p.m. Whitewater (24-15) will meet Greenbrier (32-11) at McIntosh at 9 a.m. The winner of that match will meet the winner of Sequoyah/Ridgeland at 3 p.m. In Class AAA, Sandy Creek will open with a match against Grady (6-8 record on GaSports.com) at Westminster at 10:30 a.m. The winner of this game will meet the winner of Hart County and Eagle’s Landing at 3 p.m. In the AA/A tournament, which will take place at Holy Innocents High School, Our Lady of Mercy will open with a match against Savannah Christian (33-16) at 8 a.m. The winner will take on the winner of Gordon lee and Chattahoochee County at 11 a.m. Landmark will open with a match against Savannah Country Day (15-15) at 9:30 a.m. and the winner of this match will meet the winner of Walker and Jefferson at 12:30 p.m. login to post comments |
