Count DraculaFri, 10/20/2006 - 11:09am

This weekend, Southside Theatre Guild will once again breathe new life to the classic horror story, "Count Dracula." The show, which opened Oct. 12, will play Oct. 20-21 and 26-28 at Southside Theatre Guild, 20 West Campbellton Street in Fairburn. Based on Bram Stoker’s classic vampire thriller “Dracula,” Ted Tiller’s witty adaptation sets the story inside Dr. Seward’s Asylum for the Insane. There's a new patient named Reinfield at the asylum and a new resident in the castle across the valley - a foreign count, Dracula, who has been seen only at night. Dr. Seward is desperately trying to keep his asylum and his ditzy sister Sybil in order, when his ward Mina becomes very ill after a visit from Count Dracula. Her fiancé, Jonathan Harker, arrives just in time and together with Prof. Van Helsing, they try to cure her of her illness before it claims her life. The wolves howl, the bats fly, the lights flicker...and the legendary story unfolds. Directed by Ian McCarthy and Keith Williams, the cast includes Gary Morgan as Count Dracula, Ray Greene as Dr. Seward and Heather May as Sybil - Dr. Seward's sister. May’s mother portrayed this same role in the earlier incarnation of the show. Other cast members include Terry Hoffman as Van Helsing, Melanie Martin as Mina, Albert Melear as Reinfield, Alan Rutter as Jonathan, Brett Williams as Hennessey, Todd Stephens as Wesley and Lori Lewis, Linda Cochran and Stephen Mosley round out the cast as the lunatics in the asylum. This is the second time STG has presented this show. To honor this fact, the cast welcomed and honored the cast of the first production by holding a reception after the October 14 performance. The show runs Thursdays through Saturdays, October 20-21 and 26-28. All shows begin promptly at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 for everyone on Thursday and $12 for children and $15 for adults on Fridays and Saturdays.
