Setter Mary Chaudoin is well into her junior year at Starrs Mill High School. While helping lead the highly ranked Panther varsity volleyball team this season, the past summer months were busy ones for Chaudoin.

As a member of the A5 Mizuno Volleyball club in Atlanta, Chaudoin’s summer started with her being chosen to play up on the club’s 18 year old team. She played in a regional tournament in Minneapolis and then in July in the National Championships held in the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

In late spring along with nearly 1,000 girls from across the country, Chaudoin participated in try outs for the USA Volleyball National Team. Chaudoin was one of 48 girls chosen nationally as a member of the A2 Youth National Team. In late July, she trained and competed for 10 days in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. with the top players in the nation.

Recently, Chaudoin has been recognized in Georgia Sports Magazine as a Pre-Season first team all-state selection as a setter. In addition, she’s been recognized in Prep-Volleyball Magazine as “one of the best players in the state.” Normally a setter, Chaudoin has been playing setter and right side hitter in her second year as a varsity player at Starrs Mill High School. She is one of the team’s captains.

While maintaining an “A” average, Chaudoin also holds the office of Secretary of her Junior Class, is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and is involved in numerous other school and church activities. She took part in a week long church mission trip to Mexico this past summer.

When asked what her goals have been this volleyball season at Starr’s Mill, Chaudoin does not hesitate, “Our team set a goal at the beginning of the season to win a state championship. If we all play hard we can do it.”

Chaudoin is focused on attending a top university and is very interested in playing college volleyball. While only a junior, she has been contacted by numerous universities from every Division 1 conference in the country.
At Starr’s Mill Chaudoin is coached by Dottie Licciardi, The team is the second seed in the area tournament, which began at McIntosh last night.
