Have you heard about the business owner who could have become the largest mass murderer in the United States...but didn’t? How about the one who went bankrupt because of an embezzling banker and attorney...and survived? Author and business owner Ruth King tells these stories - and 48 more - in her book, “The Ugly Truth About Small Business.” King will be appearing at the Fayette County Public Library on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m., to discuss her book and answer questions.

According to King, a self-described “serial entrepreneur” who has owned seven businesses in the last 25 years, there are three types of businesspeople. The first type makes mistakes and then repeats them, never learning from their mistakes. The second type (the majority, says King) makes mistakes and, learning from their mistakes, does not repeat them. The third type learns from the mistakes of others. They do make some mistakes of their own, but by learning from other people’s mistakes, they save themselves time, money, and headaches.

King says that reading her book can help people join the ranks of that third, rarest, and most desirable group: the business “cream of the crop.”

Part one of “The Ugly Truth About Small Business” presents 50 true stories from real-life businesspeople, illustrating various “ugly truths” for the reader to consider.
In part two, titled “What You Can Do About It,” King offers the seven greatest myths of business operations, and outlines 15 critical survival strategies for the small businessperson.

After speaking, King will sign copies of “The Ugly Truth About Small Business,” which will be available for sale. Light refreshments will be served. This free event is open to the public and brought to you by the Fayette County Public Library and the Friends of the Fayette County Public Library.

The Fayette County Public Library is located at 1821 Heritage Park Way in Fayetteville, behind the county administrative complex at the corner of highways 85 and 54. For more information, please contact the library at 770-461-8841.
