This week is National Boss’s Week, Oct. 16-20, and Cookies by Design thinks it’s important to recognize “Super Bosses” in the area. Alisa McAleer, owner of Cookies by Design of Tyrone, Ga., says, “Boss’s Week is a fun way to recognize good management from the perspective of employees.”

National Boss Day began in 1958 when Patricia Bays Haroski, then an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Ill., registered the holiday with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Haroski’s purpose was to designate a day to show appreciation for her boss and other bosses. She also hoped to improve the relationship between employees and supervisors. She believed young employees often do not realize the challenges bosses face in running a business.

National Boss Day has become an international celebration in recent years and now is observed in countries such as England, Australia and South Africa. Today, National Boss Day (or Boss’s Day) always falls on Oct. 16 and is celebrated with gifts, cards, lunches and a few extra smiles in honor of the “Super Boss.” Many gifting companies have promoted the holiday as National Boss’s Week to extend the time for employees to honor their supervisors.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 37.7 million individuals are employed in management, professional and related occupations. Workplace surveys confirm that one of the most important elements of job satisfaction is a positive relationship between boss and worker. Just as for every special occasion, the staff at Cookies by Design is busy preparing assorted cookie designs to honor bosses. “Whether it’s our popular ‘Super Boss’ design or one of our many other designs, we can create cookie gifts perfect for Boss’s Week,” said McAleer. Many designs are pictured on the company’s Web site at www.cookiesbydesign.com.
