A personnel appeals hearing for former chief detective Bruce Jordan of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has not yet been scheduled, according to Fayette County Sheriff Randall Johnson.

Johnson has been out of the office for about a week but said he would get the appeal hearing scheduled when he got back.

It has been just over a month since Johnson announced that he was demoting Jordan, a 26-year employee with the department, three ranks from lieutenant colonel to lieutenant. Johnson said only that Jordan violated departmental policy without providing details of what policy was violated or the results of the internal investigation that led to the demotion.

Jordan is still out on leave, Johnson said Tuesday. The sheriff has re-assigned Jordan to the warrants division of the sheriff’s office where he will assist in serving civil papers and arrest warrants.

Prior to the demotion Jordan came under fire after a television news report alleged that he improperly sent two detectives to Tennessee to provide security for a county baseball team that Jordan’s son also plays on. Jordan said the team had been threatened after a previous tournament by another team’s coach. Jordan also indicated the matter was handled appropriately.

The two detectives were paid for their travel expenses from the county’s drug forfeiture fund, which consists of money seized from drug dealers through state and federal forfeiture laws. Jordan later reimbursed the department for that expense.

When announcing Jordan’s demotion, the sheriff noted that Jordan’s new position would not have anything to do with the drug forfeiture fund.
