In the first of two key region games against county opponents on consecutive weeks, the Whitewater Wildcats downed the McIntosh Chiefs 41-7 to move to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in Region 2-AAAA. McIntosh fell to 0-6 and 0-4.

Tavoris Dixon led the Wildcats with 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Whitewater defense also capitalized on some McIntosh turnovers to help put points on the board.

Coach Amos McCreary is pleased with the way his team is playing at this point in the season, “especially with the injuries we’ve had,” he said.

The Wildcats are a game behind unbeaten Creekside, who handed them their only region loss, so Whitewater can put itself in an excellent playoff spot by winning its remaining games, starting with this Friday’s matchup against Starr’s Mill.

“This is an important game,” said McCreary, noting that the Panthers were picked by many to win the region this year. Starr’s Mill is also coming off a bye week.

McIntosh’s next game is at home this Friday against Woodward.

Landmark defeated Whitefield Academy 40-35. The War Eagles are now 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in Region 5-A.

After a slow start during which they fell behind 14-0 early in their homecoming game, the War Eagles got going behind Matt Moody and Jimmy Eden, as Moody threw a pair of scoring passes to Eden and each player ran for another touchdown. Tanner Bryant also threw a touchdown pass to Walter Lenard.

Brian Lee rushed for 98 yards and a score, and the Landmark defense pounced on three Whitefield turnovers. Luke Griffith had nine total tackles, with Trey Strickland recording seven tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. Blake Wyatt had five tackles and an interception.

Landmark faces Fellowship Christian in another region battle this weekend.

Our Lady of Mercy fell 48-14 to the Chargers of Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, who are undefeated and ranked in the top five in the state. The loss took the Bobcats to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in Region 5-A.

Brett Thomas led the Bobcats offensively with 116 rushing yards on 10 carries, including an 86-yard touchdown run. Christian Willis ran 10 times for 38 yards and also scored a touchdown.
The Bobcats gained 200 yards of total offense and nine first downs in the game. But the ELCA offense was just too much, scoring on every first-half possession for a 34-6 lead at intermission of its homecoming game.

OLM will attempt to get its first region win Friday when the Bobcats host Mt. Pisgah.

The Sandy Creek Patriots bounced back from two straight losses with a 37-14 win over Central of Carrollton, improving to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in Region 6-AAA.

Bradley Bush, who finished with 81 rushing yards, scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and the Patriots never looked back. Anthony Brown led the team with 101 yards on the ground, scoring in the second quarter to make it a 21-0 game after Kody Green’s extra point.
The Patriots racked up 425 yards of total offense and 20 first downs while holding Central to 106 total yards.

Central finally got on the board in the third quarter by scoring on a fumble return, but Rashad Hollis broke free for a 40-yard scoring run on the next possession. In the final period, Jake Turing connected with Braxton Lane on a 33-yard touchdown pass, and the Patriots closed out the scoring with a safety when Central’s long snapper sailed the ball over the punter’s head into the end zone.

Sandy Creek travels to Carrollton Friday night for its next game.

The Fayette County Tigers faced unbeaten and highly-ranked Creekside and came away on the short end of a 35-14 score.

The Tigers are now 1-5 overall and 0-4 in Region 2-AAAA, and they travel to Westlake Friday night.
