By: The Citizen
After the recent natural disasters of Hurricane Katrina and Ophelia, blood supplies are low throughout the Southeast. Piedmont Fayette Hospitals Auxiliary is helping by hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive Thursday, Oct. 13, from noon until 5 p.m. It will be held in Building 1279 - 1279 Highway 54 West, just west of the main hospital on Highway 54 on the third floor, Conference Room C. Eligible donors must be healthy, 17 years of age or older and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors may give blood every 56 days, or six times a year. Donating blood is a simple process that saves more than 4 million American lives each year, according to the American Red Cross. Blood is needed every three seconds in the United States for emergency medical situations. Blood is always needed for the treatment of accident victims, cancer patients, hemophiliacs and surgery patients. Contact the Piedmont Fayette Hospital Auxiliary office at 770-719-7178 for more information or to schedule your appointment. Walk-ins are welcome; however, appointments will be honored first. login to post comments |
