St. Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Church in Peachtree City invites members of the community to “Taverna Night 2006,” Saturday, Oct. 21, at St. Andrews in-the-Pines Episcopal Church’s fellowship hall. St. Andrew’s also is in Peachtree City. “In Greece, Tavernas provide a unique, unhurried, total dining experience,” said Tammy Soulakos, president of St. Christopher’s parish council and Taverna Night chair. “They are places people go for fellowship and dining with friends and family, where several hours are spent catching up, listening to music and dancing.” Taverna Night in Peachtree City will offer an authentic Greek dining experience. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with Mezethes (appetizers) with dinner served at 7:15 p.m. The menu includes Dolmades, Spanakopita, Tiropita, specially selected Greek cheeses, Horiatiko (village) salad, home-made Greek bread with olive oil and spices for dipping, and a main course of village style beef tenderloin served with traditional green beans and oven-roasted lemon potatoes. Topping off the evening’s fare are two popular Greek desserts: Baklava and Galaktoboureko (layered custard baked in phyllo pastry). Beer and wine also will be provided. Tickets are now on sale for $50 each or a table of eight for $400, which includes all food and drinks. Only 200 tickets will be sold. All proceeds will go to St. Christopher’s building fund. The evening also will include dancing to live Greek music. “Don’t know how to dance? Don’t worry. We’ll teach you,” said Soulakos.
