Local players on the college gridiron

• Deante Battle, a Starr’s Mill graduate at Northwestern University, had three solo tackles and three assists in their 48-7 loss to Ohio State.

• Brian Brown, a Sandy Creek graduate, got some playing time for the University of Delaware in their 22-21 win over William and Mary.

• Chris Capps, a Landmark Christian graduate at the University of Alabama, started at left tackle in their 16-13 loss to LSU.

• John Deraney, a Fayette County graduate, kickedan extra point and a 48 yard field goal for NC State in their 30-10 loss to Boston College. He also had seven punts for 268 yards.

• Johnny Edwards, a Starr’s Mill graduate, had some playing time for Wake Forest in their 47-17 loss to Miami.

• Andrew Gardner, a Sandy Creek graduate, started at left tackle for Georgia Tech in their 27-17 loss to Virginia.

• Kedric Golston, a Sandy Creek graduate, had one assist in Georgia’s 31-30 loss to Auburn.

• Joshua Haney, a Sandy Creek graduate, got some playing time for The Citadel in their 21-0 win over Elon.

• Chris James, a Starr’s Mill graduate, kicked a field goal and an extra point for Western Kentucky in their 42-10 loss to Youngstown State.

• Calvin Johnson, a Sandy Creek graduate, had four catches for 41 yards in Georgia Tech’s 27-17 loss to Virginia. He also had one solo tackle.

• Riley Swanson, a Sandy Creek graduate, had one solo tackle, one assist and one pass break-up for Wake Forest in their 47-17 loss to Miami.
