The region schedule for region 2-AAAA is over and Northgate’s Lady Vikings ran the table. They got a 6-0 win over Starr’s Mill on Tuesday to wrap-up the top seed in next week’s region tournament and guarantee them a spot in the Class AAAA state tournament. Kelsey Floyd got the win, striking out nine batters and driving in two runs herself. Others driving in runs in the win were Jacklyn Simpson, Chelsea Sparks and Rachelle Adkins. In other 2-AAAA action on Tuesday, McIntosh handed Fayette County a 5-1 loss and Whitewater defeated Westlake 15-0. The Lady Chiefs got another stellar performance from pitcher Morgan Kidd, who struck out 12 batters and allowed only two hits. Jessica Conaway drove in two runs, Jocelyn Clarke went 3-for-3 and drove in one and Nicole Fox was 2-for-4. Whitewater got a two run home run from Lauren Moyer in the first inning, Haley Richards went 3-for-4 at the plate and Ashley Pedersen went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while getting seven strikeouts and giving up one hit as the winning pitcher. The region tournament starts Monday at McCurry Park in Fayetteville with games beginning at 5 p.m. McIntosh will take on Banneker and the winner of that game will face the winner of Westlake and Whitewater at 7 p.m. Fayette County will meet Woodward Academy and Starr’s Mill will take on Creekside. The winners of those games will face off at 7 p.m. Teams in region 5-A will get started with their post-season tournament this Saturday at Wilkerson Park in Palmetto. Landmark Christian ended the regular season with a 10-0 loss to Providence Christian on Tuesday, placing them third in the region. They will likely face Fellowship Christian in the opening round, while Our Lady of Mercy, winless in the region, may have to take on Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy. Sandy Creek is currently second in 6-AAA behind Central, Carroll. The two teams were scheduled to face off last night after the paper went to press. The 6-AAA region tournament starts next Tuesday at the Villa Rica Sports Complex. |
