The latest GaSports.com volleyball coaches poll was released on Tuesday and four local teams are still ranked. In fact, Landmark Christian is now ranked sixth in Class AA/A, which is a move up since the last poll where they were ranked eighth. Sandy Creek is still ranked third in Class AAA, Starr’s Mill is still ranked second in Class AAAA, but McIntosh dropped from third to fourth in that classification. Landmark’s move came from winning five matches in a row, including wins last Thursday over Newnan and Columbus, ranked fourth in Class AAA. The Lady War Eagles are 15-11 overall and undefeated in region 3-AA/A. They hosted Blessed Trinity, ranked second in Class AA/A and McIntosh last night after the paper went to press and will face St. Vincent’s Academy, 10th in AAA, and St. Pius , third in AAAA, at St. Pius tomorrow. McIntosh has been off since picking up region wins over Whitewater and Banneker last Tuesday. The Lady Chiefs (21-10, 8-0 region) will play seven matches at Northview High School on Saturday. Starr’s Mill faced two tough teams on Tuesday and lost both matches. The Lady Panthers (31-6,7-1 region) lost to Woodward Academy, fifth in AAAA, (25-12, 25-14) and lost to Wesleyan, first in AA/A, (25-20, 17-25, 25-22). Starr’s Mill hosted Sandy Creek and Columbus last night after the paper went to press and will take on St. Vincent’s Academy and St. Pius at St. Pius tomorrow. Sandy Creek (42-9, 6-0 region) got wins over Fayette County (25-16, 25-9) and Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy (25-11, 25-14) on Tuesday. After yesterday’s matches at Starr’s Mill, the Lady Patriots are off until next Thursday when they host Landmark Christian and Starr’s Mill. Prior to their losses to Sandy Creek and Eagle’s Landing on Tuesday, the Fayette County Lady Tigers (4-17, 3-5 region) defeated Ola High School 25-7 and 25-21. Rachel Barnes led with 10 aces, Lindsey Gunter had five kills, Christine Rape had five digs, and Hope Thomas had 100 percent service reception. Against Banneker, Lindsey Gunter showed out with five blocks, one assist, and Beth Hays had six kills to lead the Tigers once again to victory (25-16, 25-22). Whitewater (23-12, 5-3 region) defeated Mill Creek, fifth in AAAAA, on Tuesday (25-18, 23-25, 25-22) and lost to Brookwood (13-25, 25-23, 23-25). They will host Mt. Zion, Jonesboro and Central, Carroll next Tuesday. |
