The upcoming Peachtree City Classic road race series helps the Peachtree City Running Club give back to the community.

The club will host a 15K open and 5K races for men and women Oct. 21, with the route winding along the city’s scenic golf cart paths. The event is always a sellout.

Which is good for the running club, which uses funds from the race for community programs throughout the year. The club has helped start elementary school running clubs for between 3,000 and 4,000 students, provides financial support for track programs in all five Fayette County high schools and offers 16 college scholarships for runners in county high schools.

The club also sponsors:
• The Fayette County Middle School Track and Field Championships
• The Peachtree City Flash girls and boys track team
• The Summer Track Classic Series
• The annual Kids Fund Run and numerous other events.

The club was able to donate more than $20,000 into these various programs last year and hopes to increase that significantly this year if registrations for the Classic hold up to expectations.

All three of the Classic’s races are run on separate TAC-certified courses, and they all start and finish at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater. The amphitheater will host a pre-race expo Friday, Oct. 20 from 5-9 p.m. and on race day from 7-11 a.m. with information on health and fitness products, sponsors and selected vendors.
