PTC: All golf carts must have new yellow decal by Oct. 31Tue, 10/03/2006 - 3:59pm

Peachtree City residents have until the end of the month to purchase their new golf cart decals before facing a possible citation from the police department, city officials said this week. All golf carts operated inside the city must display the new yellow decals, according to Betsy Tyler, the city’s information officer. The decals, which cost $12 for city residents, were necessary to update the city’s database of information on who owns which golf carts, officials have said. The current database contains outdated information that has stymied investigations into stolen golf carts and other golf cart-related incidents on the path system, officials said. Police will begin ticketing violators starting Nov. 1; the standard fine for such an offense is $80. The decals are good for a five-year period. So far 7,000 carts have been registered but city staff estimate that as many as 2,000 more carts have yet to be registered, which could ultimately end up with long lines at City Hall. “We’re still seeing a lot of white decals out there, and residents need to go ahead and obtain the decals to comply with the new rules,” said city spokesperson Betsy Tyler. Although decals may be obtained in person at City Hall, they can also be purchased online with a credit card at www.peachtree-city.org or via mail with a check using a printed version of the online form. Online or mail users will have their decals returned to them by mail, but they should do so by Oct. 15 to allow time for processing and mailing of decals, officials said. Under the new regulations, anyone purchasing a cart must pay a $5 transfer fee at City Hall and make sure they notify the city they are assuming ownership of the cart. Non-residents, who must pay the $12 decal fee and the standard $60 annual cart path access fee, must register in person at City Hall, officials said. login to post comments |
