On October 19, 2006 the Fayetteville Police Department will join forces with Fayette Middle School, Fayetteville Fire Department and the Fayette Meth Task Force to help in the National Red Ribbon Campaign.

The Red Ribbon Campaign is a national program which is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of young people. The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered Kiki Camarena, a DEA agent, in 1985. This began the continuing tradition and displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the use of drugs. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment toward the creation of a DRUG-FREE AMERICA.

Members of the Fayetteville Police Department and Fayetteville Fire Department will put on various demonstrations throughout the day which demonstrate the dangers of using drugs. M&S Auto and Fayette Wrecker will be providing a car for the simulation of emergency workers responding to the scene of a car accident involving a driver who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
