Region tournaments start Saturday for region 5-A, Monday for region 2-AAAA and Tuesday for region 6-AAA. This week is the last chance for a team to pick up an extra region win and perhaps enhance their seeding in next week’s tournaments.

In region 2-AAAA, Fayette County and McIntosh ended their regular season with a game yesterday after the paper went to press. Last week, the Lady Tigers got a 2-0 non-region win over Pike County. Britt Hammel-Cobb hurled a no-hitter, striking out 15 batters and allowing one walk. Chasity Welch had an RBI and London Morgan went 3-for-3 at the plate.

McIntosh played in the Brookwood tournament last week and went 2-4. The Lady Chiefs lost to Oconee County (1-0), Brookwood (5-3), Lakeview, Ft. Oglethorpe (3-0) and Jones County (1-0), while defeating South Gwinett 5-3 and Central Gwinett 8-2.

McIntosh is 5-2 in the region and Fayette County is 4-3.

Starr’s Mill followed a 3-1 win over McIntosh with a 2-1, 11-inning loss to Woodstock. The Lady Panthers, undefeated in the region, hosted Northgate, also undefeated in the region, yesterday after the paper went to press. The game will determine the number one and two seeds in next week’s region tournament.

Whitewater’s Lady Wildcats, 4-3 in the region, played in the Milton tournament last week and went 4-2, placing third in the gold bracket. Whitewater got wins over East Coweta (8-1), Shaw (7-0), Murray County (10-0) and East Coweta (1-0), while falling to Milton (1-0) and Stockbridge (1-0). Haley Richards drove in seven runs during the tournament and Megan Gentry hit.600 over the weekend. Whitewater hosted Westlake yesterday in their final region match and will host Luella tomorrow.

The region 2-AAAA tournament will start at McCurry Park in Fayetteville next Monday.
Sandy Creek, 4-1 in region 6-AAA, also played in the Milton tournament last weekend, after picking up an 8-0 region win over Carrollton. In the tournament, the Lady Patriots went 2-2-1. They lost to East Coweta (4-0), defeated Centennial (13-2), beat Brookstone (6-0), lost to Shaw (7-0) and tied Alpharetta 0-0. They played at Villa Rica last night and will play at Central, Carroll (5-0) in the region on Thursday.

The 6-AAA region tournament will take place at the Villa Rica Sports Complex starting on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
