In local high school volleyball action last week, Fayette County (4-16, 3-5 region) lost to Starr’s Mill (25-14, 25-10) but picked up a region win over Creekside (25-10, 25-13) before getting a non-region win over Ola on Thursday.

Yesterday, after the paper went to press the Lady Tigers faced Sandy Creek and Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy. They will close the season at home next Thursday with matches against Our Lady of Mercy and Union Grove.
Starr’s Mill (31-4, 7-1 region) took on Wesleyan and Woodward Academy at Woodward Academy yesterday after the paper went to press. They will host Sandy Creek and Columbus tomorrow beginning at 5 p.m.

Tuesday, the ‘Cats defeated Banneker and lost to McIntosh in a hard fought match making the Wildcats 5-3 in Region play. Whitewater coach Ben Thacker pointed out Charmaine Kehoe and Jordan May for excellent passing in the matches against McIntosh and Banneker.
In the McIntosh match the ‘Cats fell behind early in the first game and lost 25-14 but came roaring back in the second game to lead 18-14 and fought hard to the end before losing 25-21. Junior outside hitters Katie Holland and Casey Howett led the Wildcat attack with great setting from Junior Vanessa Warner who had several assists in the match.

Whitewater took control after a slow start against Banneker and won in two games, 25-14 and 25-18. Outstanding performances were turned in by Brittany Woods and Jordan May. Warner turned in another impressive match with more consistent setting for the Wildcats attacking from their front and back lines.

McIntosh (21-10, 8-0 region) beat Banneker 25-14, and 25-5. They will take on Blessed Trinity and Landmark Christian, both ranked in the top 10 of the GaSports.com class AA/A coaches poll, at Landmark tomorrow at 6 p.m.
The ‘Cats visited the sixth ranked Mill Creek Hawks on Thursday and surprised Shiloh and Mill Creek to ruin Mill Creek’s Senior Night to win both matches. In the Shiloh match Kehoe and May provided strong serving and passing for the Wildcats to win in two games, 25-18 and 25-10. Against Mill Creek, Whitewater battled to the end in the first game 23-25 but came back strong to win the next two games 25-20 and 25-16 to win the match and shock the Hawks. The wins by the Wildcats pushes their season record to 19-9 and, according to Thacker, they don’t appear to be anywhere close to finished yet….in fact they seem to be really coming together at the right time.

Sandy Creek (40-9, 6-0 region) played in the Conyers Classic over the weekend and lost the championship to St. Pius (25-14, 25-13). The Lady Patriots won every match but the final, defeating Alcovy (25-14, 25-12), Morrow (25-17, 25-18), North Gwinett (25-17, 18-25, 17-15), Mt. Zion, Jonesboro (25-13, 25-16), Riverwood (25-8, 25-21), and Jonesboro (28-30), 25-20), 25-10).

Sandy Creek faced Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy and Fayette County at ELCA yesterday.
