Dionte Bradley got away with it, but only for a while. The 25 year-old Atlanta man wanted in connection with the Sept. 9 shooting of Palmetto resident Charles Shovell was arrested earlier this week on drug charges by DeKalb Police.

Bradley was sought on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to Palmetto Det. John Cooper.

The Sept. 9 altercation at Genesis Gardens Apartments on Ga. Highway 154 resulted in Shovell being shot several times in the upper abdomen with a .45 caliber handgun, said Cooper. Shovell is currently recovering from his wounds.

The incident at Genesis Gardens occurred near midnight when Bradley and another man were talking in the street area when Bradley drove his vehicle in close proximity to the men. Bradley returned a short time later and exited his vehicle, firing several shots and striking Shovell from a distance of approximately 10 feet, Cooper said. Bradley then fled the scene.

Three others were arrested after the shooting and charged with offenses such as making false statements and hindering the apprehension of a criminal.
