Nearly 200 teachers statewide were accepted into the program this year. Among them are Kimberly Fisher, Fayette Middle; Christine Campbell, Fayette Middle; Cindy Hendrix, Kedron Elementary; Angela Boze, Kedron Elementary; Suzanne Givens, Kedron Elementary; Sonya Farr, Peeples Elementary; Margaret Counts, Rising Starr Middle; Ann Collins, Rising Starr Middle and Josephine Rouse, Rising Starr Middle.

The Georgia Master Teacher Certification Program provides statewide recognition to certified public school teachers with at least three years of experience in Georgia who consistently demonstrate excellence in the classroom through gains in student achievement. The Georgia General Assembly passed legislation in 2005 authorizing the Professional Standards Commission to establish the program.

Selection of this year’s Master Teachers was conducted in June. In order to apply for the program, teachers went through a lengthy application process where they documented evidence supporting their classroom achievements. The application was confirmed by the local school system first and then by the Professional Standards Commission.

Teachers accepted into the program received a special certificate to honor their excellent performance in the classroom.
