GraceFlock band to perform at Christ Our Shepherd Sunday

GraceFlock contemporary worship band will celebrate the release of its CD, “Living Gifts,” with a free outdoor concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1, at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will take place in the church’s fellowship hall.

“Living Gifts” is the first album by the GraceFlock group, which leads the church’s 11 a.m. contemporary service, and contains all original music written by three of the band’s members, Gary Pederson, Lans Rothfusz and Del Boland. The 16 new and original Christian songs are varied in style, ranging from rock opera to ballad to country swing .

Songs featured on the CD include “Eyes of Hope,” written by Pederson, which he says was inspired by the horrific conditions he saw as a volunteer at Biloxi, Miss., in the aftermath of last year’s Hurricane Katrina.

The songs “Soli Deo Gloria” and “Serve On!” have been used extensively in worship at Christ Our Shepherd. Both were written by Rothfusz.

Work on the CD began in October of 2005. The Oct. 1 concert marks its release to the public. Proceeds will go to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts and to outreach efforts of the congregation.

“The purpose of the CD is to spread the good news of God’s love to all who want or need to hear it in a contemporary style,” said the Rev. John Weber, senior pastor of Christ Our shepherd.

Comprised of 14 musicians, GraceFlock has been leading worship services each Sunday for five years with a mixture of original and well-known contemporary Christian songs.

David Beecher, minister of music at Christ Our Shepherd and one of the founding members of the group, commented, “The musicians are blessed with careers in fields other than music. They have chosen to give back their impressive talents to the glory of God.”

Members of GraceFlock include Shane Beard, Del Boland, James Callison, Karla Dietmeyer, Penny and Sara Kahley, Robin Merriman, Gary and Christie Pederson, Lans and Kathy Rothfusz, Mark and Susan Summers, Frank Trembley, and Ginnie Weber.
