• Deante Battle, a Starr’s Mill graduate, had seven solo tackles, one tackle for a loss and one pass break up for Northwestern University in their 31-21 loss to Nevada. • Larry Beard, a Sandy Creek graduate, had three solo tackles and two tackles for a loss in Georgia Southern’s loss to 27-26 Chattanooga. • Antonio Brown, a former Starr's Mill standout, had one kickoff return for Hampton University for 35 yards in their 26-7 win over Morgan State University 9-23-06, in the NY Urban League Classic Game. • Darrell Burston, a Starr’s Mill graduate, had one solo tackle, two assists and one tackle for a loss in Florida State’s 55-7 win over Rice. • John Deraney, a Starr’s Mill graduate, kicked a 29 yard field goal, punted eight times for a total of 280 yards and had four kickoffs for 220 yards for NC State in their 17-15 win over Boston College. • Jason Earwood, a Starr’s Mill graduate, got the start at middle linebacker for Georgia Southern in their 27-26 loss to Chattanooga. • Johnny Edwards, a Starr’s Mill graduate, got some playing time on defense in Wake Forest’s 27-3 win over Ole Miss. • Andrew Gardner, a Sandy Creek graduate, got the start at left tackle for Georgia Tech in their 24-7 win over Virginia. • Michael Gates, a Sandy Creek graduate, got the start at left guard for Mississippi State University in their 16-10 win over UAB. • Josh Haney, a Sandy Creek graduate, got some playing time for The Citadel in their 51-6 loss to Pitt. • Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson was named Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Back of the Week for the second time this season. Johnson, a junior from Tyrone, Ga., had a career-best 165 yards receiving on six catches with two touchdowns to lead Georgia Tech to a Thursday night victory over Virginia, 24-7. His 165 yards are just one yard fewer than Virginia's offensive output for the game. Despite missing the week of practice with a leg injury, Johnson caught the two longest touchdowns of his career on plays of 58 and 66 yards. • Jamael Owens, a McIntosh graduate had one kickoff return for 19 yards for LaGrange College in their 58-21 loss to Bridgewater. • Riley Swanson, a Sandy Creek graduate, had two assisted tackles and a pass break up for Wake Forest in their 27-3 win over Ole Miss.
