An Atlanta man is being sought in connection with the Sept. 9 shooting of Palmetto resident Charles Shovell at Genesis Gardens Apartments. Shovell is recovering after being shot several times in the upper abdomen with a .45 caliber handgun.

Dionte M. Bradley, 25, is being sought on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to Palmetto Det. John Cooper. Three others were also charged with lesser offenses related to the shooting.

The incident occurred near midnight when Bradley and 29 year-old Atlanta resident Wyterius Brewster and 32 year-old Jermaine Trammell, also of Atlanta, arrived at Genesis Gardens to visit apartment resident Natasha Powell, Cooper said. Bradley, who was driving Chevrolet Suburban, entered the apartment complex and came into close proximity to Shovell, who was talking to another man in the area of the street. Words were exchanged between Bradley and Shovell and Shovell left the area, Cooper said.

Shovell returned to the area a short time later where Bradley was waiting, said Cooper. Bradley exited his vehicle and opened fire at Shovell with a .45 caliber handgun, striking Shovell four to five times in the upper abdomen from a distance of approximately 10 feet, Cooper said. Bradley fled the scene after the shooting.

Cooper said Bradley is being sought along with the white 2002 Chevy Suburban with tag number GL443C.

Powell was later arrested for making false statements, Brewster was charged with hindering the apprehension of a criminal while Trammell was charged with hindering the apprehension and making false statements, Cooper said.

Cooper said Shovell is currently recovering from the wounds.

The investigation is ongoing and is a joint operation between Palmetto Police and Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Anyone with information relating to this shooting is asked to contact Det. John Cooper at (770) 463-9068.
