And the bands go marching on...Fri, 09/22/2006 - 11:40am
By: The Citizen
Band exhibition set for Saturday, Sept. 23 Don’t miss your chance to be a part of history. For the first time in its 185 years, Fayette County will stage a major exhibition of its own award-winning high school marching bands. Never before have Fayette’s high school marching bands gathered in one home-county venue to perform their football game half-time shows during a single musical extravaganza. This inaugural Fayette County Marching Band Exhibition will take place at the McIntosh High School stadium, 201 Walt Banks Road, in Peachtree City, on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 5:30 p.m. In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled for Sept. 30. The bands promise to delight young and old alike with a variety of shows that will include colorful costumes, extravagant field choreography and electrifying musical scores. The Spirit of McIntosh Marching Band will perform music from the animated Disney movie “Antz.” The band’s 95 musicians will thrill the crowd with movements amid imaginative custom-made props that will make the marchers seem like tiny ants crawling on the gridiron grass. The Fayette County High School Marching Tigers will entertain spectators with “The Prince of Egypt;” the Whitewater High School Wildcat Marching Band will present “Legacy of a Soldier;” and Sandy Creek High School’s Patriot Band will perform “The Music of the Miami Sound Machine.” The Starr’s Mill Panthers are unable to participate in this year’s event. Also for the first time ever, a special ensemble of eighth grade students from J.C. Booth, Flat Rock, Fayette and Whitewater middle schools will open the exhibition with a stirring performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” guaranteed to arouse goose bumps for all spectators. The festivities will include a raffle, message grams, a commemorative keepsake program and a smorgasbord of foods, confections and special items from the concession stand and vendors. More than 200 volunteers have been working since June to organize this historical event in Fayette County. Bring the entire family to this inaugural exhibition of Fayette’s finest young musicians. Admission is just $3 for adults and $1 for students. For more information, log onto www.mcintoshbands.com. login to post comments |
