Newnan American Legion

Every week, you have two chances of winning big at Bingo. The American Legion Post 57 hosts games on Sundays and Tuesdays at the Coweta Veterans Club in Newnan. And here’s the best part—while you’re having a good time, you’re helping the community.

“We’ve been hosting Bingo at our Post for over 16 years now,” says John Lager, past commander. “Many of our regular players are members, but we welcome everyone. In fact, we’re known for our hospitality and friendly atmosphere.”

The entire family is invited for an evening of fun. The hall is a non-smoking environment and children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. A set of Bingo cards is required for everyone attending the game, including children.

How much can you win? The Veterans give out $1,500 each night; that’s the maximum allowed by law. There are five $100 games and a jackpot of $1,000.

The cost to play is reasonable—$8 for one set (three faces), $11 for two, $14 for three and so on. Each set covers all the games except the Early Bird, which is $1 for one set or $5 for six.

The money that’s collected goes to good causes. Bingo proceeds are used to fund Veterans’ affairs, as well as community service and public functions, such as the 4th of July Parade, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Children’s Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween and Christmas parties. The Welcome House, senior citizen groups and ACE are some of the local organizations that have benefited in the past, in addition to the Children’s Miracle Network, Alzheimer’s Association, American Red Cross, Veteran’s Hospitals and the National Emergency Fund, to name a few.

Even munching on a snack can make a difference. The snack bar, operated by the Ladies Auxiliary, uses its proceeds to bolster community projects and assist American Legion families.

Bingo games are held Sundays, starting at 6 p.m., and Tuesdays, starting at 7 p.m., at the Coweta Veterans Club, 130 Veterans Club Drive in Newnan; it’s located north of 34 Bypass on Hwy. 29 N, across from A&W Nursery. For more information, call 770-251-6949.
