The region tournaments are a little over two weeks away and teams are looking to move up in the standings now to improve their seedings when the tournaments begin.
East Coweta stayed a perfect 7-0 in region 4-AAAAA with a 5-4 win over Newnan on Tuesday. The Lady Indians had posted five straight shutouts before that win. They played at Tri-Cities last night and will host Paulding County on Tuesday at 6 p.m. It didn’t count in the region 2-AAAA standings, but the McIntosh Lady Chiefs, 4-1 in the region, got another shutout on Monday when they beat Fayette County, 2-2 in the region, 3-0. Amelia Beach went 3-for-4 at the plate, Brea Elder went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jessica Conaway and Nicole Fox both went 2-for-4 as well. Pitcher Morgan Kidd struck out 12 Fayette County batters. The Lady Chiefs hosted Woodward Academy last night and will play at Starr’s Mill next Tuesday at 5 p.m. Northgate remains perfect in region 2-AAAA (5-0). The Lady Vikings handed Whitewater their second straight 1-0 region loss on Tuesday. Northgate scored on a passed ball and was able to keep the Lady Wildcats from scoring. The Lady Vikings played Chapel Hill last night and will host Creekside next Tuesday. Starr’s Mill took on Woodward Academy on Tuesday night and won 8-0. Paige Peurifoy struck out nine batters and gave up six hits. Kayla Deis went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Lauren Marchman went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Chesley Savage went 2-for-2 with three runs scored. On Wednesday, Starr’s Mill beat Westlake 16-0. Peurifoy picked up another win, throwing a one hitter and striking out 11 batters. Ashley Clontz went 2-for-2 with four RBIs, while Marchman went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Karlie Bureau drove in two runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate and Deis drove in a run while going 2-for-4. The wins gave the Lady Panthers a region record of 4-0. Starr’s Mill hosted Fayette County yesterday after the paper went to press and will have another big region match on Tuesday when they host McIntosh at 5 p.m. Whitewater (4-3 in the region) only has one region game remaining, a match against Westlake at home on Oct. 3. They will host East Coweta next Wednesday at 6 p.m. In region 6-AAA, Sandy Creek is 2-0 in the region after defeating cartersville 3-0 on Tuesday. The Lady Patriots have won four of their last five games, despite being bitten by the injury bug a bit and being without their top pitchers in that span. Sandy Creek played at Haralson County (1-1 in the region) last night and will host Cass (1-1 in the region) at 5:30 p.m. next Tuesday. They hosted St. Francis yesterday and will play a big game at Eagle’s Landing Christian at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. login to post comments |
