PTC teen died after incident at early-morning party

A Sharpsburg teen has been indicted for involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of a Peachtree City teen at a party July 20.

Kevin Michael Johnston, 17, of HiLo Road, Sharpsburg shot Dallas Crenshaw,18, with a 9mm handgun at the party, which was hosted by another teen at a home in the Centennial subdivision, police said. Crenshaw died hours later while doctors attempted emergency surgery to save his life.

Johnston was initially arrested for murder in the case, but a Fayette County Grand Jury apparently determined the involuntary manslaughter charge was more appropriate. The grand jury indictment, unsealed in open court Wednesday, also charges Johnston with several related counts including:
• Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime;
• Carrying a concealed weapon;
• Possession of a pistol by a person under the age of 18;
• Possession of marijuana (less than one ounce); and
• Theft by receiving stolen property.

Johnston was friends with Crenshaw and had actually picked Crenshaw up and driven him to the party, officials said.

The party featured drugs and a significant amount of alcohol being consumed by underage persons police said, and the parents of party host Christopher Canderozzi were out of town when the party was taking place, police said.

Earlier in the party, Johnson and others were seen “playing” with the gun, police said.
