The festival season is in full swing this weekend as Fayette and Coweta counties hosts four annual celebrations: the Shakerag Arts and Crafts Festival in Peachtree City, Old Town Sharpsburg’s Fall Festival, the Inman Farm Heritage days, and Tyrone Founders Day.

The Peachtree City Parks and Recreation Department will host the 29th annual Shakerag Arts and Crafts Festival September 16 and September 17 at Shakerag Knoll in Peachtree City.

The popular festival opens to the public from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. on Saturday and 12-5 p.m. on Sunday. The event, which is open to the public, is free.

This year 33 percent of the vendors scheduled to be at the event are new to the arts and crafts festival. Crafters like, John F. von Eschenbach of Whitesburg, Ga., who makes his debut into Shakerag presenting his stained glass articles, and Carrie Welborn of Newnan, who will show her unique designs of monogrammed accessories made of ribbon, will be found under the shady pine trees next to the Frederick Brown, Jr. Amphitheater “Shakerag attracts unique handcrafters from all over Georgia and surrounding states,” said event coordinator Makeda Smith.

The Shakerag Arts and Crafts Festival is known for its handmade arts, crafts, food, music, and fun for all, so bring your entire family. Come hungry, for there is a varied menu with food vendors offering baked goods and meal options. Tables are available so plan to stay for mealtime.

Shakerag always promises to offer a great opportunity to shop from talented and unique craftsmen. For more information contact Makeda Smith at 770-631-2542.

Old Town Sharpsburg's 22nd annual Fall Festival will be held September 16 and 17 as well, from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Booths lining the old business district streets will be occupied with vendors from past years as well as some new vendors. Shoppers will have the opportunity to browse through antiques, collectibles, craft items and artwork from the many talented artisans.

The festival, which is held the third weekend in September and the third weekend in April every year, has been a staple of the small Coweta town for 22 years. Welcoming artisans from all over the Southeast, the event will feature a variety of entertainment for those of all ages and interests.

Kids will enjoy tree climbing, kiddie train rides and slides. Come hungry and enjoy smoked bbq, roasted corn, kettle corn, funnel cake, shaved ice, boiled peanuts or a corn dog while watching the cloggers perform or listening to the music.

While attending the festival, visit the ten shops of Old Town Sharpsburg that are open all year long. Admission and parking is free for this event.
