Starr’s Mill wins Collins Hill tournament titleThu, 09/14/2006 - 1:12pm

Volleyball fans who were hoping for a match between Starr’s Mill and McIntosh in the Collins Hill Classic last weekend missed out. The Lady Panthers were seeded first in the gold division, while the Lady Chiefs were seeded second. Starr’s Mill made the tournament final by defeating Sandy Creek 25-21, 22-25, 15-12 and McIntosh missed making the final by falling to Mill Creek, 25-20, 18-25, 15-11. The Lady Panthers defeated Mill Creek for the title, 25-21, 25-18. McIntosh will host Starr’s Mill at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Overall, Starr’s Mill went 6-0 in the Collins Hill tournament, while McIntosh went 5-1 and Sandy Creek went 4-2. Starr’s Mill is currently ranked third in AAAA, while McIntosh is ranked fifth. Sandy Creek is ranked third in AAA. McIntosh will play in the Block Party Invitational at Lovett High School tonight and tomorrow, along with Landmark Christian, currently ranked eighth in AA/A, while Sandy Creek will host Lithia Springs, East Coweta, Newnan, SW Whitfield and Dutchtown in the Sandy Creek Play Day on Saturday. Games start at 9:30 a.m. To reach the semi-finals, McIntosh defeated Brookwood, Peachtree Ridge, Shiloh, Kell and Sequoyah, while Sandy Creek, beat Athens Academy, Grayson, Collis Hill and Parkview. The Lady Patriots also lost to Mill Creek last weekend. Starr’s Mill got wins over Oconee County, Mill Creek, Collins Hill and Sandy Creek in the tournament. On Tuesday night, Sandy Creek got region wins over Villa Rica (25-8,25-13) and Haralson County (25-12,25-4), while McIntosh got region wins over Fayette County (25-5,25-4) and Northgate (25-7,19-25,25-22). Northgate will host Banneker and Creekside next Tuesday at 5 p.m., while Fayette County will play at Whitewater. Landmark Christian School went 2-2 at a play day at Holy Innocents last Saturday. The Lady War Eagles beat Decatur (25-21,25-11) and Darlington (25-14,19-25,25-17) while falling to Wesleyan (25-22,25-14) and Walker (18-25,25-21,22-25). |
