Fayette Biking for Life (FBL), a cycling club based in Fayette County, invites the public to participate in a ride they are hosting in conjunction with the Tyrone Founders Day festivities on Saturday, September 16. Ride option distances are 44 miles, 16 miles, or 4 miles. The 4-mile ride is called the “fun ride” and is great for beginners or children. This is a non-supported ride that is open to the public and free of charge. The 44-mile Hooch ride is a moderate ride to the Chattahoochee River and back along the pastoral roads of Fayette, Coweta and South Fulton Counties. One rest stop (15 miles) and one store stop (27 miles) are available on this route. The 16-mile Canongate ride goes through the Canongate golf community, with no store stop options. The 4-mile Fun Ride is a great option for beginners and children, staying within Tyrone’s paths and neighborhoods. All riders are required to wear helmets and obey all traffic laws. Each ride will include a ride leader; no rider will be left behind. Registration is at 9:30 a.m.; Riders Meeting 9:45; Depart at 10 a.m. Other festivities of the day include a 5K road race, parade, car show, carnival and rides, chili cook-off, entertainment, and fireworks (go to www.tyrone.org for more information). Ride start is at Tyrone Elementary School on the corner of Senoia Road and Castlewood Road in the heart of Tyrone. Directions: From Atlanta: Take I-85 South to Exit #61 (Tyrone/Peachtree City Exit). Go south on GA Hwy 74 (Joel Cowan Pkwy) approximately 5 miles to the Senoia Road exit. At the stop sign, turn right and go through the next 4-way stop. Tyrone Elementary will be ahead on the right. Park at the school or elsewhere as directed. For further information, call Dick Allis at 770-487-9956 or Bonnie Bobbitt at 770-461-2566. The club advocates the development of cycling-friendly roads and cycling recreation areas and provides a meeting point for all riders interested in cycling for health and recreation. login to post comments |
