The projected completion date for weekend construction along I-85 in December is closing in. But, of course, this is November, so travel plans this weekend should include time for traffic delays for those venturing onto the expressway.

Delays this weekend will be experienced both on northbound and southbound lanes in South Fulton County, according to Georgia Department of Transportation District 7 Communication Specialist Mark McKinnon.

Northbound delays will be felt due to the closure of two right lanes from Ga. Highway 74 to two miles north of that location. Two right lanes will also be closed from Buffington Road to I-285. For those heading south, the exit ramp at Ga. Highway 138 will be closed along with two right lanes from Flat Shoals Road to Hwy. 138. Closures for all construction projects begin Friday at 9 p.m. and continue through Monday at 5 a.m.

Motorists are encouraged to visit the GDOT NaviGAtor Web site (www.georgia-navigator.com) for construction updates and information. While visiting this site, motorists may also sign up for MyNaviGAtor, a service that will provide customized route information to cell phones, PDAs and personal computers. Construction information is also available 24 hours daily by calling 1-888-419-GDOT (4368) or by dialing *DOT or #DOT from a cellular phone to speak with a Georgia DOT Transportation Management Center operator.
