Several teams play in weekend tournaments

Fayette County and Starr’s Mill’s varsity softball teams played in the Cherokee Invitational over the weekend.

The Lady Panthers went 5-1, getting wins over Union County (7-3), McEachern (8-0) on Friday before losing to Dade County 3-0 on Saturday morning. Starr’s Mill followed the loss with wins over Brookwood (2-0), Pace (5-3 in eight innings) and Sequoyah (2-1).

The Lady Panthers are 2-0 in region 2-AAAA and has a region game at Banneker tomorrow before playing in the North Cobb Invitational this weekend.

Fayette County opened the Cherokee tournament with a loss to Ringgold (5-2) and followed it with a loss to Dunwoody (4-3). On Saturday morning, Fayette County lost to Newton (5-4) before defeating Union County (6-5 in nine innings. The Lady Tigers are 1-2 in region 2-AAAA and faced Westlake on the road last night. Their game against Pike County scheduled for today has been cancelled.

Whitewater, 3-1 in region 2-AAAA, played in the Shaw tournament last weekend and opened with a win over Lowndes (8-7) before losing to Hardaway (2-0). On Saturday, the Lady Wildcats defeated Lee County (6-1), and North Hall (7-2) before falling to Shaw (1-0). Whitewater played at Creekside last night after the paper went to press and will host McIntosh tomorrow at 5 p.m.
McIntosh, 1-1 in region 2-AAAA, had their game against Woodward Academy postponed for the third time last week. The teams are expected to play today at 5 p.m and the Lady Chiefs will follow that game with a game against Whitewater on the road tomorrow at 5 p.m.

Sandy Creek begins their play in region 6-AAA tomorrow with a game at Cedartown. They will take on Newnan and Haralson County on Friday night at the Carroll County Complex beginning at 6 p.m.

In region 5-A play, Landmark Christian was scheduled to meet Our Lady of Mercy on Monday but the game was cancelled. The two teams are scheduled to meet at Landmark tomorrow at 5 p.m.
