If your property was reassessed this year, you’ll notice a change in your school tax.

The Coweta County Board of Education voted last week to set the 2006 ad valorem millage rate at 18.59 mills.

The board voted in called session, following the third of three announced public hearings held before the millage rate was set. This is the third year the Coweta County School Board has set the local property tax rate at 18.59 mills. The Board voted also to keep the bonded indebtedness tax rate at 0 mills.

Local property taxes account for approximately half of the funding for maintenance and operations of the school system, with the remainder funded by the state of Georgia.

Since the board chose not to roll back the reassessments, many taxpayers will see an increase in their property tax bill this year.
