Tanner
to speak to PTC runners By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Lisa Tanner, volunteer coordinator for the Atlanta Track Club, will be the guest speaker for the Jan. 3 meeting of the Peachtree City Running Club. Tanner was employed with the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games prior to coming to work for the Atlanta Track Club. While at ACOG, she was one of six full time staff members working the athletics (track and field) venue. She did it all, as she explains that she worked everything from managing the volunteers to developing the time line for the athletics events to working with officials. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a BBA in human resource management in 1992 and a master's of education in sports management in 1994. While at Georgia, she was a member of the track and field team, where she competed in the high jump, achieving a height of six feet. She has been with ATC since September 1996. She is responsible for getting volunteers for the 25 events the ATC puts on each year, with the largest event being the Peachtree Road Race, which has 3,000 volunteers, and the Atlanta Marathon, which has 1,500. The Peachtree Road Race is the largest 10K in the United States. Peachtree City Running Club's first meeting of the new century will be at the Wyndham Peachtree Executive Conference Center at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3. The public is invited to attend and hear what she has learned the hard way, what works and doesn't work in recruiting, organizing and managing volunteers.
