Fayette Flash sends 10 to national meet

Ben Brantly led the Fayette Flash in the USATF Region III Cross Country meet last month in Spartanburg, S.C.

This regional event covered the states of Georgia, North and South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. Brantly finished a close second in the 14 and under boys 4K with a time of 13:48.

Also qualifying in the meet was Kirsten Pretzer in the girls 10 and under with a time of 13:09 for the 3K distance, placing her 13th overall. Melissa Anderson led the girls 12 and under team to a third place finish with a time of 17:09 for the 4K, finishing eighth overall.

Also qualifying on this team were Kristen Adlington, Catie Phillips, Susie Cook, Heather Bowman, JessicaWeaver, Lisa Meeder and Kathleen Richards.

All of the children listed qualified to compete in the national meet in Spartanburg, S.C.

Also competing in the regional meet and performing well were the 8 and under boys and girls teams. Liby McConlogue led the girls to a second place finish by finishing third overall. Shannon Phillips finished seventh and Jennifer Leonard finished 10th, rounding out the team.

Wayne Whitehead led the boys to a second place finish by finishing fourth overall. Zachary Lovett and Keenan Allen rounded out the boys team. The 8 and under teams were not eligible to advance to the nationals.
