finish season swimming strong The Southside Seals continued their impressive season with outstanding swims at the Electric City Masters Invitational Meet in Anderson, S.C. Four Seals swimmers joined over 40 other swimmers from the state to form Team Georgia. Team Georgia took on 14 teams from North and South Carolina and finished third overall. Team president Karol Welling was the outstanding swimmer for the Seals, scoring points in 10 individual events and four relay events. Swimming in the women's 35-39 age group, Welling posted first place finishes in the 100M breaststroke and the 50M backstroke. Karol scored more points for Team Georgia than any other Seals swimmer. Steve McDonald swam i the men's 40-44 age group and posted his best times of the season. He placed second in the 100M breaststroke and fifth in the 50M breaststroke. Steve Justice swam in the 40-44 age group as well and set new Georgia State Records in the 50M freestyle, the 50M backstroke and the 200M backstroke. He swam on two first place finishing Team Georgia relay teams as well. Ken Sharpe continued to swim well in the men's 45-49 age group. He set a new Georgia State Record in the 50M freestyle. This meet brings an end to one of the best years in the history of the team. The Southside Seals, based out of the Kedron Aquatic Center in Peachtree City, set a team record medal count (12) at the Georgia Games, had four members achieve national qualifying times and set five new Georgia State Records. The team now sets their sights on the USMS National Short Course Championships in Indianapolis this April. |
