Panthers and Patriots prepare for last game of season

They say time flies when you're having fun and there is no doubt that both the Sandy Creek and Starr's Mill football teams are having fun.

Last season, the Panthers finished with a 4-6 record, while Sandy Creek went 2-8. This year, both teams are in playoff contention. Starr's Mill is 7-2, while Sandy Creek is 6-3. Tonight is the final game of the season for both teams and winning is of ultimate importance for both teams.

The Panthers will play the Forest Park Panthers (4-5) at Tara Stadium. Last week, Starr's Mill came out flat against Woodward Academy and lost 33-10. The Panthers must come out energized on both sides of the ball and their offense must depend on the players that have brought them to this point. Their strength has been in their ground attack. Craig Maddock, Reuben Houston, LaDon Cooper and even quarterback Brad McClaren have had much success running the ball this season.

If Starr's Mill comes out and plays the type of game that they have played all season, they should not have too much trouble with Forest Park. Forest Park is athletic and fast but certainly not the power that it once was.

Sandy Creek's Patriots had an amazing game last week and showed everybody what kind of heart they have. Down 13-0, Gavin Bourgeois led the team back, recovering a fumble and making an interception for touchdowns.

This week, they will play Jonesboro (2-7) at Twelve Oaks Stadium. Jonesboro has had an off season but should not be overlooked. Sandy Creek's defense must lead the team and the ground game featuring J.R. Lemon and Mark Lawson will need to get involved early.

East Coweta (8-2) is done with its regular season, but tickets have gone on sale for the playoff game next Friday. All 1999 season ticket holders may purchase reserved seat tickets Friday, Nov. 12 and Monday, Nov. 15. All remaining tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis. Call 770-254-2850.
