Mayor just trying to wake up nodding voters

Re: “Mayor Bob” editorial [The Citizen, Oct. 20]: The editorial doesn't speak well of the news media.

Mayor Lenox was just trying to generate the registered voters to awake from their apathy which has prevailed in this community for too long. 20 percent of the voters, 15 percent, etc., doesn't speak too well for the people of this community or this nation.

The news media should be encouraging the get out to vote program [with] headlines on the front page. The dictators of this world just love your attitude; that is how they come to power, that is how they keep power.

May I remind you also that your paper is supposed to serve the public. I, along with thousands of others that have fought and died to preserve this nation, did so a person could speak out to make voices heard in a community so involved with all their selfish interests that they must take to keep the second and third cars, their big homes, but no time for setting an example for the youth of this nation.

I was granted a franchise to vote at age 21, and vote I have in every election, even when I was in combat, no matter what the issue. If World War II didn't stop me, then it can't stop me now.

Maybe they should amend the Constitution to drop any voters' right to vote if they have missed two elections in a row. Maybe that would awake the voter. It appears that you and others would rather they sleep and just nod their heads in agreement.
