Spirit of Industry awards to be announced next week

The votes are in and the Spirit of industry winners will be announced at an awards banquet next Tuesday.

Fayette County industries were invited to submit an application for the 1999 awards hosted by the Chamber's Existing industry Committee.

This year's applicants were judged by school board chairman Debbie Condon, state representate Kathy Cox, county commissioner Greg Dunn, Chamber president Elissa Hall, development authority chairman Randy Hayes, assistant superintendent of Eeducation Fred Oliver and the Spirit of Industry chairman Nancy Price.

Applicants were judged in two areas: economic impact and industry's citizenship.

Two awards will be annouced: companies with 50 employees or more and companies with fewer than 50 employees.

In the economic impact category, industries were judged on company stability and current investment in plant, property and equipment within the county.

Industries were judged in the second area with such criteria as employer's participation in educational, civic and charitable organizations.

Submitting applications for the award this year were Florida Rock Industries, Inc. Tyrone quarry; Gallopade International; Trimph Motorcycle America, Limited; Cooper Lighting; Hella, Inc.; Hoshizaki America, Inc.; Lawson Mardon and Panasonic MCUSA.

The winners will be announced at an awards banquet Oct 26 at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center in Peachtree City.

Last year's large company winner, Panasonic, went on to capture the state-wide award
