tax cuts; stop raids on S.S. funds In Congressman Mac Collins' article, he mentions that Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.), will not spend a dime of Social Security. If I am expected to believe that the refund of the budget surplus is not raiding Social Security funds, then will someone in Washington please tell me when Social Security funds or taxes stopped going into the General Fund to help balance the budget! I am not happy with the amount of taxes I pay, but giving the surplus back to citizens in a form of a tax cut, after robbing the money from the Social Security Trust to balance the budget, is spending Social Security monies. Secondly, if a tax cut is given in any form or any way, what is going to be cut or eliminated to balance the budget? Maybe this is why some of the Congress and Senate are against a tax cut. They may not be big spenders or favor the mislabeled big government, they just know if you take away income, you must cut spending for a continued balanced budget. Not one single Republican, Democrat, conservative or liberal, has said what will be cut or eliminated from the budget to balance the proposed tax cuts. I suspect we won't hear that until after November. Andrew T. Linko
