Fire strikes convenience store

By MONROE ROARK

Monday morning commuters on Ga. Highway 54 at Robinson Road in Peachtree City got an unexpected fireworks show, as flames shot from the roof of the Village Store on the southwest corner of that intersection.

The Peachtree City Fire Department was notified at about 8 a.m., according to Capt. Ed Eiswerth. A number of people called 911 about the blaze, he said.

Two engine trucks responded, along with a ladder truck and rescue and medic units, to the scene and found an extensive fire in the “attic,” between the roof and the ceiling of the store.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze without incident and no one was hurt. The store was open at the time of the fire.

Extensive damage to the building will require electrical and other repairs, Eiswerth said, meaning the store will be closed for an undetermined period of time.
